You have just purchased a brand new computer and are excited to use it. But all of your favorite programs are on your old computer. Or maybe you just purchased a new, larger hard drive and all of your important work is on your old hard drive. Or maybe you had a severe virus infection and need to save your clean files to a new hard drive. Depending on the operating system of the computers you are moving from and to, transferring everything is not always straightforward.
Moving from one operating system to the same operating system on a different computer or on a different hard drive partition is the easiest type of transfer. One does not have to worry about compatibility issues for computer settings in this case. If you want your files transferred to a computer with the same operating system, you can easily transfer all drivers, user settings, and configurations. However, if you are transferring to a computer with a different operating system, some of the configurations and settings may be difficult or impossible to transfer over. If these are settings you want to keep, we will do our best to maintain what you want on your new computer.
Some computer owners will want to move their files from a PC to a Mac or the other way around. These transfers can be difficult. We will make sure that your important files, programs, and applications are protected. Some programs may not work from one computer to the next, although compatibility problems are much less now than they were ten years ago. Apple computers have a PC emulator which will allow PC programs to run.
Some computer owners want to save all of their programs from their old computer. Often there are newer versions of these programs offered, but computer owners tend to feel attached to the programs they have already purchased. If the owner has all of the original CDs and registration keys, this will not be a problem. We can reinstall programs from original CDs and set up the programs like they were on the old computer or old drive. Sometimes, however, owners forget where they placed the original CDs or registration keys. If the program has been registered online, customer service may be able to help identify the owner and may allow the program to be reinstalled on another computer. More often than not, owners have lost the CDs and registration keys and in this case, the owner may need to repurchase the software for the new computer.
