Commonly referred to as a web address, the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) can be thought of as a placeholder for information or web resources located on a specified computer network and is used to recover/retrieve/obtain said information or data. Uniform Resource locators are often used to reference HTTP (web pages), however file transfer protocol (FTP). email (mailto), and several other applications can also be referenced using a URL.

A commonly appearing Uniform Resource Locator or URL will look something like:

https://www.restontechwiz.com/about-us

In this URL, the HTTP protocol identifies a hostname (www.restontechwiz.com), and a sub-page (about-us).
