Slugs in WordPress is a brief collection of words that is basically a URL-version of page or post’s name. It is a part of the URL directing visitors to a specific page. These are typically URL friendly and are usually generated by WordPress to be a version of the existing post title. You can alter the slug to be anything you like. Slugs are used with permalinks as they help describe the content.

Slugs in WordPress appears just after the name of your domain in the URL. Being a part of the site’s URL, it helps in identifying every page or post. Stuffing keyword in the slug is essential for improving visibility in the SERP (search engine result page).

Slug should not contain anything apart from the letters and the numbers so one must avoid stuffing special characters into it as then the special character will be substituted with its other equivalent or will be left out of the slug. WordPress does not accept spaces between the words in the slug section so one should replace the space with the dashes or hyphen (-) or you can use only lowercase letters.

To modify post slug in WordPress, all you need to do is go to any desired post then click on the edit button. Then click on the edit button present next to the slug line and modify it then click on the ok button when you are done.

One needs to understand that slugs of the published post should not be altered as if you do so then all the links to that older posts will be broken and also, the same content will get published on the multiple pages.
